Poker is a card game where players try to make the best 5-card hand from their own two personal cards and the five community cards on the table. Players place a compulsory bet at the beginning of the hand called an ante or blind bet. The dealer then shuffles the cards and deals them out to the players one at a time starting with the player to their left. The player can then decide whether to call, raise or fold their cards.

Advanced players know how to anticipate an opponent’s range of hands & play accordingly. They realize that the more information they have about their opponents, the better bluffing opportunities they will have. They also understand that the position they are in at the table has a huge impact on their success. For example, if you are in early position and the player behind you raises then you should consider raising as well because your opponent will likely have a strong hand such as a full house or trip fives which is very easy for beginners to identify.

It’s also important to play with money that you are willing to lose. You should always track your wins & losses to make sure that you are not spending more than you are making in the long run. You should never put more than 10% of your bankroll on the table if you’re a beginner and even then only when you’re confident in your ability to win.
