What is a Slot?
A slot is an area or position where something can be inserted, as in a door or window. It is also a name for a specific space on a computer’s motherboard, such as an ISA or PCI slot. A slot is also a place in an airplane where passengers are seated, and it can refer to the area on ice hockey rinks where the face-off circles meet.
Slot can mean:
A casino game that requires a player to insert cash or, in “ticket-in, ticket-out” machines, paper tickets with barcodes, into a slot on the machine. The machine then activates a series of reels that spin and stop to rearrange the symbols. When a winning combination appears, the player earns credits based on the pay table. The symbols vary by machine, but classics include fruit, bells, and stylized lucky sevens. Each machine has a theme that is conveyed through the symbols and bonus features. Some slot games have a fixed number of reels, while others use multiple.
